Eye Movement Desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)

What is EMDR?

EMDR is a type of therapy that taps into the brain’s natural ability to heal, helping you process painful memories and the beliefs you’ve carried because of them. Over time, those memories can begin to feel less distressing, and the negative beliefs tied to them can shift into more balanced, empowering beliefs.

how does it work?

EMDR happens in eight phases that take place over several sessions. In a typical session, you’ll focus on a past memory while following a form of bilateral stimulation. Using bilateral stimulation while focusing on a past memory allows your brain to process and make sense of the experience in a new way.

What is bilateral stimulation?

Bilateral stimulation involves sensory input that activates both sides of the brain. Common forms of bilateral stimulation include eye movements, tapping, or sounds.

Does it really work?

Yes - EMDR is recognized by both the American Psychiatric Association and the World Health Organization as an effective treatment for trauma and PTSD. Research also shows EMDR can help with anxiety, depression, OCD, and other challenging life experiences. Many people find EMDR to be a powerful tool in their healing journey.

The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change.

Parts Work / IFS

What is parts work?

Parts work, also called Internal Family Systems (IFS), is a way of understanding the different pieces of who you are — the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that sometimes feel like they’re pulling you in different directions. As an IFS-informed therapist, I draw from IFS principles to help you get curious about these parts, understand what they need, and see how they’ve been trying to protect you. It is easy to view parts of ourselves as “problems” or try to force change through self criticism, but parts work invites a different path — one that fosters compassion and understanding, allowing meaningful change to grow from within.

how does it work?

During a parts work session, we might start by focusing on a feeling, thought, or sensation you’ve noticed lately. I’ll guide you in getting curious about the part of you that’s holding it — what it’s feeling, what it needs, and how it’s been trying to help. We move at your pace, letting each part share its story, so you can build understanding, compassion, and new ways of responding to yourself.

Does It Really Work?

It really does! A growing body of research shows that IFS is an effective approach for treating trauma, anxiety, and depression.
